What this site puts in your browser.
This page explains exactly what this website puts in your browser, what each thing is for, and how long it stays. It describes what the site actually does, measured in a browser rather than copied from a template — which is why it is shorter than most pages with this title.
- Nothing, until you shop Browse, search, read and get in touch and your browser is given nothing at all. Cookies begin only when you put something in the basket.
- We ask before we measure Analytics does not start until you accept it. There is no advertising, no profiling and no cross-site tracking whichever way you answer, and nothing recognises you when you come back.
- One question, two answers Accept cookies or Decline, once. We remember your answer and do not ask again, and the shop works exactly the same either way.

Until you answer, nothing at all. Accept and two analytics cookies that last only as long as your browser is open; the basket cookies come when you put something in it.

When you use the basket
Putting something in the basket sets three cookies, listed in full below. They are what makes a basket a basket.
-
Analytics
Google Analytics 4, only if you accept it, used only to count how the site is used and improve it. The cookies end when you close the browser, so no visit is linked to the next one. Decline and nothing is loaded or sent.
-
Advertising
None. There is no advertising pixel, no remarketing and no audience tool on this website.
-
Other companies
One, and only if you accept analytics: Google, who provide it. Every script, stylesheet, image and typeface is served from this website, and nothing else is loaded from anybody.

Your choice
Accept cookies or Decline. We remember for a year and do not ask again, and “Cookie settings” at the foot of any page changes your mind.
Measured in a logged-out browser on 5 September 2026 across the home page, the shop, a search, Customer Care, Suppliers & Trade, the basket and the checkout.
Every cookie, in full
Six cookies. Three make the basket work, one remembers your answer to the cookie question, and two are Google Analytics — set only if you accept, and gone when you close the browser. Every duration below was measured in a browser on 6 September 2026 rather than estimated.
Cookie
wp_woocommerce_session_…
When you use the basket
Set by Lomond Furniture
What it does Connects your browser to the basket held on our server, so the shop knows which basket is yours. The name ends in a string unique to this site.
Type Strictly necessary
Lasts 2 days Two days from your last visit. Seven if you are signed in to an account. Cannot be read by scripts in the page.
Cookie
woocommerce_items_in_cart
When you use the basket
Set by Lomond Furniture
What it does Records that your basket is not empty, so pages can show the right thing without asking the server first. Its whole value is the number 1.
Type Strictly necessary
Lasts Until you close the browser Deleted the moment the basket becomes empty again.
Cookie
woocommerce_cart_hash
When you use the basket
Set by Lomond Furniture
What it does A short code standing for the basket’s contents, so the shop notices when they change and does not show you a stale basket.
Type Strictly necessary
Lasts Until you close the browser Deleted the moment the basket becomes empty again.
Cookie
lomond_analytics
When you answer the cookie question
Set by Lomond Furniture
What it does Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so you are not asked again. Its whole value is the word granted or the word denied.
Type Strictly necessary
Lasts 12 months Written the moment you answer, whichever way you answer. Declining sets it too — that is how a refusal is remembered.
Cookie
_ga
Only if you accept cookies
Set by Google
What it does Separates one browser from another so a single visit is counted once rather than on every page. It holds a random number and nothing about you.
Type Analytics — only if you accept
Lasts Until you close the browser Google’s default is 400 days. This site sets it to end with the session instead, so you are a new count next time and no visit is joined to another. Measured in a browser on 6 September 2026.
Cookie
_ga_R47WKP8M8R
Only if you accept cookies
Set by Google
What it does Keeps the state of the visit for this site’s analytics property — when it began, and whether it is still the same visit.
Type Analytics — only if you accept
Lasts Until you close the browser The name ends in this site’s own measurement id, and it is shortened in the same way and for the same reason as the one above.
None of these carries your name, your address, or anything else about you. Two of them disappear when you close the browser.
01
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and hand back on your next page. Most of the web uses them for two very different jobs: making a site work, and watching what you do.
The same is true of the other things a site can store in your browser — local storage, session storage, and a handful of similar technologies. This page covers all of them, not only cookies, because what matters is what is kept and why, not which mechanism keeps it.
02
What this site does today
Before you answer the cookie question, nothing at all. Measured in a browser on 6 September 2026 across the home page, the shop, a category, a search, a product, the basket and the checkout, having answered nothing: no cookies, no local storage, no session storage, no databases in the browser, and not one request to any other company.
Accept and two analytics cookies appear, both ending when you close the browser, and one company is contacted — Google, who provide the analytics. Decline and none of that happens; the only thing stored is a small cookie recording your answer so we do not ask again.
The typefaces are served from this website rather than from Google, which is the commonest way a site leaks its visitors without meaning to.
03
The cookies the shop needs
Putting something in the basket sets the three basket cookies listed above. Between them they do one job: remember what you chose while you carry on shopping, and keep that basket attached to your browser and nobody else’s.
They hold no name, no address, no email and nothing about you as a person. The longest lived of the three keeps a reference for two days; the other two are gone when you close the browser, and all three are deleted as soon as your basket is empty.
These do not need your permission, and that is a legal position rather than our opinion. Under Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, Schedule A1 paragraph 4, storage is exempt where it is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for — and the paragraph names "maintaining a record of selections made on a website" as an example. A basket is precisely that.
04
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 for one purpose: to see how this site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it. Which pages and products people look at, where the shop is working and where it gets in the way, and whether pages are fast enough. Numbers about pages, not a file about you.
We ask before any of it starts. On a first visit a small bar offers two answers, Accept cookies or Decline, and nothing is fetched from Google and no analytics cookie is set until you press Accept. Declining is a real answer: it is remembered for a year, you are not asked again, and “Cookie settings” at the foot of any page changes your mind either way.
What keeps it inside that narrow purpose is deliberate. The analytics cookies expire when you close your browser instead of Google’s usual 400 days, and nothing else is stored to make up for it, so no visit is joined to another and nobody is recognised on their return. Google Signals, advertising storage, advertising data, ad personalisation and remarketing are all switched off in this site’s own code. There is no Tag Manager, no Google Ads link, no audience, no demographic reporting, and no name, email or hashed identifier is ever sent.
Google is the provider and therefore processes what is measured, if you accept. Decline and their script is never loaded at all; change your mind later and the two cookies are deleted and nothing further is sent.
We also keep our own count of orders and sales inside the shop’s own database, once orders exist, because a shop has to know what it has sold. That is a record on our server, not a cookie in your browser, and nothing about it is sent to anybody else.
05
Advertising and marketing
We do not use any. There is no Meta or Facebook pixel, no TikTok pixel, no Google or Microsoft advertising tag, no Pinterest tag, no affiliate tracking, no remarketing and no customer-audience tool on this website.
Nobody is building a profile of you from this site, because there is nothing here to build one with.
06
Other things a site can store in your browser
Cookies are not the only way a website can keep something in your browser, so we looked for the others too: local storage, session storage and in-browser databases. All three were empty on every page we checked, before and after trying to use the basket.
Some shops record where a visitor arrived from — which search, which advert, which link — and keep it in browser storage until an order is placed. WooCommerce can do this. It is switched off here, and we confirmed that by looking rather than by trusting the setting: nothing of the kind is stored and the script that would do it is not loaded.
07
Other companies
One, and only if you accept analytics: Google, who provide it. Decline and no other company is involved in serving you this website at all — every script, stylesheet, image, icon and typeface comes from this site’s own domain.
There are no embedded videos, no maps, no social widgets, no chat window, no CAPTCHA and no content delivery network in front of the site — each of which would ordinarily mean another company seeing your visit.
The typefaces deserve a specific mention, because they are the commonest way a well-meaning website leaks its visitors to a third party. Ours are hosted here.
08
Payment, when it is switched on
The shop cannot take payment yet: no payment provider is installed, configured or enabled, and no payment company’s software runs on this site.
When payment is switched on, the provider will almost certainly need cookies of its own to process a payment safely and to prevent fraud — that is ordinary and it is strictly necessary. We are not going to guess their names or their durations here. This page will be re-checked in a browser and updated before a single order can be placed.
09
Managing cookies in your browser
Every browser lets you see the cookies a site has set, delete them, and block them — for one site or for all of them. The controls sit under settings, usually labelled privacy, cookies or site data. We are deliberately not printing a step-by-step guide for each browser, because those instructions go out of date faster than this page does.
Blocking or deleting the basket cookies above will not stop you reading anything on this site. It will stop the basket working: items will not stay in it between pages, and checkout will not be able to complete. That is the trade, and it is yours to make.
Most browsers also offer a "do not track" signal. Analytics on this site is off until you turn it on, so there is nothing for it to switch off that your own answer has not already settled.
10
Do you have to agree to anything?
To the analytics, yes — that is what the bar on your first visit is asking, and nothing measures anything until you answer it.
The basket is a different matter. It falls within Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, Schedule A1, as storage strictly necessary to provide the shop you asked for, so no permission is needed for it and asking would be theatre.
Analytics is not strictly necessary, so it is asked for rather than assumed. Declining costs you nothing: every page, price, product and the whole checkout behave identically, and you will not be asked again.
Silence is not agreement. Scrolling, clicking and carrying on browsing are not treated as an answer, and nothing is stored until you press one of the two buttons.
11
Changes to this policy
When this page changes, the date at the top changes with it — taken from the moment the page was last edited rather than typed in by hand, so it cannot say one thing while the page says another.
We will re-check this page in a browser, not merely re-read it, whenever the shop gains something that could store anything: payment, accounts, or any measurement of how the site is used.

How this fits with the Privacy Policy
This page covers what is stored in your browser. The Privacy Policy covers everything else: what personal information we hold, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
The two are written from the same audit and are meant to agree. If you find them disagreeing, the Privacy Policy is the fuller document — and, again, please tell us.
